Double vision . . .

Sometimes that can happen if I'm REALLY tired, but in this case, it's all about two quilts with the same theme . . . Audrey made these adorable quilts for her two nieces . . . . they were identical - so we decided to put a different quilting pattern on them just to make it more interesting. Both used Hobbs 80/20 batting and were quilted with Fil-tec Glide thread (Celery) . . . lucky, lucky nieces!

Audrey's #2 - Popcorn panto

Audrey - Daisies Galor

See - there really are two!
I didn't get pics of the back - but the backing was Lime Minkie . . . just the right touch and it looked amazing after it was quilted! Then Marge brought me two quilts that are going to Nova Scotia as gifts. . . .and while they are not the same pattern, they do have some of the same fabrics. I quilted them both with the same panto - Flirtatious ; Fil-tec Glide thread - Sand. They are going to be a stunning edition to the family room in Nova Scotia!

Flannel backing - love it!!!

This is not about seeing triple . . . this is the backing!!!

Marge's piece backing - beautiful!!

This next quilt isn't about seeing double.... it is about caring, friendship, and just a great group of people. I quilted this on a very tight time line - you see, a group of colleagues got together to create this work of art for one of their friends/colleagues who was recently diagnosed with cancer. They knew she would not have long, and wanted to make something to share with her - and to comfort her. Each quilt block represents something meaningful for both the giver and the receiver. They told me (and I have no doubt!) that this was very therapeutic for everyone . . . something tangible that they could do under the circumstances. I know how important this act of sharing is for everyone - so I worked it in and got it quilted. It was the least I could do . . . I have purposefully blurred the picture - as the quilt itself was beautiful, but very personal . . . just want to share what a dedicated group of friends can do. I quilted a heart in each square to depict the many hearts that made this a very special quilt.

Applique quilt - finished!

Bonnie did such an amazing job on this VERY unique and busy quilt!  It's a Jen Kingwell pattern - Green Tea and Sweet Beans.  I'm really happy with the way it turned out - not sure if the pictures capture the definition the quilting added, but it really has a great effect.  Bonnie loved it - and with any luck, others that made the same pattern will ask me to quilt theirs . . . it was just so much fun as I could treat each of the blocks as a whole new quilt!  I used my new freehand favorite in the borders - Swirl - Feather - Feather (adapted from Judi Madsen - Green Fairy Quilts) . . .

Did you see my news about the rental program at Little House?  Well, there's more news - we're expanding!  One of the staff members at Addies has just ordered her brand new APQS Millenium - and we are going to share space at Addies!  I'll still offer edge-to-edge freehand quilting and pantos, as well as custom quilting for my customers, but we are both going to manage the rental program on two great APQS machines - my FREEDOM (aka Freeda) and Betty Anne's yet to ne named MILLENIUM.  We're super excited!  The rental program will begin in October so contact me if you are interested.

Quilting for Calgary . . . just a taste!

Here are a few pictures of quilts that Little House Creations has quilted for Quilting for Calgary.  Thank you for the generosity of quilters who supplied fabric for tops and backing, pieced beautiful quilts, and backing . . . I quilted them . . . then there have been the hours of binding and labeling for the finished product . . . enjoy the slide show . . . .

and yes, there are four Kansas Troubles Star Quilts - they are pretty much identical except for the backings and the quilting designs used . . . but there really are four!

It's never too early for cozy flannels!

Cozy flannels - after all, fall is just around the corner!

Sheena used shades of green and brown flannel in the cozy quilt.  I think it's the Hopscotch pattern from The Quilt Patch - it takes 12 fat quarters and yardage for the inner border - great project!  Come Dance with Me panto; Glide thread

and it's not only fall that's just around the corner - Christmas will be sneaking up on us too!  Lorna has a head start on her Christmas quilts.  These quilts are both from the same pattern, but using slightly different fabrics!  They quilted up so nicely using Snazzy Snowflake panto; Glide thread; Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Matthew's space quilt isn't all flannel - just the cozy backing!  He's going to love snuggling under the stars in the cool winter nights ahead!  Stars and Loops panto; Glide thread; Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Colourful Creations - and oh no, camera settings!!

Bright and splashy - everywhere there is colour these days!  The flowers are at their peak, the grass is green, sky is blue and the sun is bright!  Even my sweet peas are blooming - finally!  I suppose the next bit of colour will be the leaves changing - that's for another time.

Mardelle's Blue/Gold Star Quilt certainly is colourful, isn't it?  Freehand design in the blues for texture; light custom in stars - Glide thread

FORGIVE ME FOR THE PICTURES OF THESE FOLLOWING TWO QUILTS!  I WILL ASK MY CUSTOMER'S IF THEY'LL SEND ME PICTURES - AS THEY'VE BOTH HEADED HOME FOR BINDING!  (guess I better check the camera settings- this is what happens when I don't have my glasses on and I think I've set it to Auto - but have set it to Effects instead! CRAP - and that's really not a strong enough word!))

WOW - Betty's yellow/orange rail fence quilt is a stunner!  It turned out absolutely beautiful with the wool batting adding that definition to the quilting!  Betty loved it - it's a gift for her son and will be heading over to Germany!  Glide thread; Hobbs Wool batting; Waterworld panto

Debra is a hand-quilter.  She made this quilt for her brother and just couldn't feel the "love" of the hand-quilting once she got started - so, she picked out all she had done, and brought it to me to get it finished so she could give it to him as a gift in a couple of weeks.  I love the way she arranged the fabrics colours to make it a flower meadow effect.  I quilted it with the Starburst panto; Superior So Fine thread.  The one piece back (Moda Kansas Troubles) was perfect - this quilt really could be reversible!

I was so happy with these two quilts - now just kicking myself!

Still doing more quilts for Quilting for Calgary - a massive job - but just a few more hard days and I'll have my contribution finished - it will be 18 quilts - that's as much as I can do and I know there are still more tops that need to be quilted.  The long arm community has really stepped up to the plate for this one . . . thank you to everyone who has been helping out with Quilting for Calgary.

Here's one of four star quilts that Betty has pieced and donated -

and a soft brushed cotton quilt pieced and donated by Heather -

Beautiful job on both - and a pleasure to quilt!

Until next time  -
